Picasso handed over the napkin on which he had made a drawing for a high fee. "But how?" the woman stammered. “How can you ask me so much money for this drawing? It only took you a few seconds to do it!” To which Picasso replied: "Madame, it actually took me my whole life to do it." This is how the long, pleasant conversation with the owner begins, as we stroll along the avenue lined with lavender, among the wonderful trees of different species that enrich the garden. While I admire and appreciate how well cared for and natural everything is, it's right with this anecdote that makes me notice how much time and how much care has been devoted to all of this. Between one tree and another, glimpses of a breathtaking panorama appear, the Tower of Radicofani stands out framed by two cypresses, under the field with the round bales - it is part of the property -, the Val D'Orcia interspersed with the gullies typical of this stretch; if you turn around you see the promontory of Castell'Azzara and in the distance another farmhouse as in the most faithful paintings that portray the typical Tuscan landscape. “This place is simply part of our story” she continues to tell me and entering the house she shows me the photos of when she and her husband fell in love with this place where there was only a ruin infested with ivy and fires and close to collapse. But that didn't discourage them and so, little by little, they grew the farmhouse. An important house that arises from the recovery of the original building. Then enlarged so as to obtain two distinct units, which can be connected to obtain a single large house. The division became advantageous when, for a period, the house was made profitable with leases aimed at an international clientele. The oldest part, spread over two levels, offers on the ground floor a living area, a kitchen, a double bedroom and a bathroom; upstairs two bedrooms and a bathroom. The manor house has a beautiful living room, a kitchen and going up a few steps there are two bedrooms, a closet and a bathroom. A large, well-finished garage serves the house and the land. The property is comfortable and usable: there is a well that draws water from a superficial vein, three storage tanks (5000 and 20000 cubic meters) fed by rainwater which then exits through the pumps on the sprinklers; a deposit for drinking water so as to never run out of supplies, external lighting, a shed for cars, two outbuildings for tool sheds expertly sheltered by hedges and various delightful corners furnished with small outdoor tables and chairs so as to have more possibilities, depending on the time of day, to enjoy the panorama. Our pleasant conversation continues sitting under the large porch, where, on this hot summer day, pleasant breaths of wind arrive. They give me the story of their memories that flow over an entire life of this couple of daring entrepreneurs who have created their own oasis of peace and relaxation here and an atmosphere that makes you feel immediately "at home". As I leave, I take a last look at the panorama and imagine how, in the evening, when the lights of Radicofani come on, everything is even more magical and evocative. Position: Radicofani, San Casciano Bagni 18 Km, Abbadia San Salvatore 17 Km, Mount Amiata 25 Km, Lake Bolsena 48 Km, Chiusi railway station 31 Km.
