This is the story of an old barn abandoned for decades then purchased and renovated with a change of use into residential. The renovation transformed it into a Tuscan house with timeless elegance in which all the details of the old country houses were kept alive, emotionally linking them to colored paintings (easily removable as they are water-based paints) inspired by African travels. Located in the municipality of Castiglione D'Orcia, in the small village of Montieri, and surrounded by. 5800 m2 of land owned. The home has an authentic and non-conformist spirit, from times gone by yet contemporary and relaxed. It is neither huge nor small, its volumes are perfect both for a holiday home and for living in. The ground floor is dedicated to the living area; a brick arch ideally separates the sitting area with the large open fireplace from the dining area with the corner built-in kitchen which, in its simplicity, fits well with the restored traditional elements. One side, connected directly to the outside via two French windows, allows for quick connection in the event of outdoor dining. Also on this floor is a study that can also be used as a small bedroom and a bathroom. On the floor below, two very spacious bedrooms with private bathrooms have been redesigned, both connected to two external porches; then a laundry room under the stairs and a technical room. The renovation was radical, as the house was rebuilt in order to ensure the solidity that old country houses normally do not have. The underground walls are waterproofed and protected by a shaft that isolates them from the ground. The new roof, insulated and covered with ancient tiles in the rare tile-tile shape. Obsessive attention was paid to the interiors. The materials used, where it was not possible to recover them, were purchased on the market of retailers of authentic materials from other old farmhouses. The doors and external frames made by a master craftsman, the handles by a renowned blacksmith who modeled the ancient locks. The majolica tiles chosen one by one, purchased individually from robi-vecchi. The copper bathtub comes from the old disused spa of Bagno Vignoni. Organic paints and plasters. The mission that guided the renovation was to have a house from which to derive an income from high-level tourist rentals and in some periods to be used as a convivial space to live with friends and family.
